FAQ

Q: Is your garlic really grown in a graveyard?
A: As much as we'd love to say our garlic is harvested by the undead, it's actually grown on our farm in Central Indiana. The name "Graveyard Garlic" comes from our owners' love for garlic, food, sci-fi, and horror movies. But don't worry- while our garlic doesn't come from the grave, it will bring your meals back to life!

Q: When do you plant and harvest your garlic?
A: Weather dependent we plant in October-November, and harvest in May-July (depending on the variety).

Q: How do you fertilize your garlic?
A: Immediately before planting, we soak our cloves overnight in organic liquid kelp fertilizer. Throughout the season, we use organic fertilizers in the field applied to the soil and the plants themselves.

Q: How do you treat for weeds?
A:  It's all natural, all powerful, and we're not afraid to get our hands dirty. We mulch 'em down with a nice layer of leaves and pine straw to keep the weeds at bay. Then, we roto-till the lanes and pull out any weeds by hand that dare to show up.

Q: How do you plant your garlic?
A: We use a custom-built tractor implement that creates perfectly spaced holes at the right depth. Two riders sit on seats attached to the implement, and push individual garlic cloves into each hole by hand.

Q: How do you harvest your garlic?
A: By hand and hunched over...it's as fun as it sounds but trust us it's worth it to ensure each plant is removed with care.

Q: How is your garlic stored before it's available to purchase?
A: As soon as our garlic is harvested from the field it is separated by variety, and then is cured by hanging in a well-ventilated barn for 3-4 weeks. After curing, it is trimmed, cleaned and stored in our custom built garlic cellar with temperature and humidity monitoring.
